A well listed Danish artist, studied under P.S. Kroeyer and Lauritz Tuxen
at Kunstnernes Studieskole (The Artists' Study School founded by a group
of the "Skagenmalere" which included: P.S. Kroyer, Lauritz Tuxen, Michael
Ancher and other notable artists of the period).
He travelled to Switzerland and the Faroe Islands and, in his younger
years stayed at Skagen during the summer. He mainly painted portraits
and figures, but he also did some interiors and landscapes.
Aigens was among a group (including Poul Friis Nybo 1869-1929) that became
famous for their painted lamplight interiors with and without people,
but he also found his motifs among common subjects and genre scenes of
people at their work and every day settings.
He exhibited at "Kunstnernes Efteraarsudstilling" (The Autumn Exhibition
of the Artists), Charlottenborg and at the Young Artist's exhibition.
A Christian Aigens painting "Interior with young girls around a paraffin
lamp" sold for $3,600 at auction in September 1998.
