Marie Ingeborg Bang "MB" (1833-1913) Well-listed Danish Artist who lived
in a period where female artists were unwelcome and not allowed to attend
the Art Academies. In spite of the difficult circumstances she managed
to impress some of her male collages who later took her as their private
pupil.
Bang studied with the artists, E. Rasmussen Eilersen, Neils Christian
Kierkegaard and F. Helsted. At the end of Bang's carrier she opened her
own private art school where she encouraged and helped other female artists
to get acknowledged in the art industries.
Exhibitions include: charlottenborg 1871-1893, The world fair in Paris
1878, The female exhibitions 1895 and 1920, The town hall in Copenhagen
1901.
Marie Bang's works today are very rare and only a very few have been sold
at auction houses. A coastal landscape sold in 1998 for $1,107.00 at auction
in Copenhagen.
