Herman Albert Gude Vedel (1875-1948) is a listed Danish born March 1,
1875 in Copenhagen Denmark to Johan Peter Bernt Nirrenius W. and Anna
Elisabeth Gude. In 1893 Vedel passed the student Exam at the H. Grønvold
School and in 1894-1897 he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Art in
Copenhagen. Additionally, in 1896-99 he attended the Zahrtmanns School.
As a young boy, Vedel studied in St. Petersburg and Southern France and
later in his life, he studied in Germany, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland.
He was married December 21, 1906 to Pianist Karen Hertz, f. Wellmann.
In 1909 Vedel became a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Art.
Vedel exhibited in his native Denmark and internationally including: 1899-1912,
1914-16, 1918- 37, 1939-49 Charlottenborg Palace, 1909, 1913 Munich, 1911
World Exhibition in Rome, 1914 Malmö, Sweden, 1929 Toronto, 1932 Venice,
1941 State Museum for Art, Copenhagen,
Awards & Honors include: 1902-03, 1906, 1909 Honored by the Royal Danish
Academy of Art, 1905 Raben & Levetzau Award, 1908 & 1909 Years Medal in
Copenhagen, 1909 Eckersberg Medal in Copenhagen, 1913 Medal Awarded in
Munich, and in 1918 the Thorvaldsens Medal.
A Herman Albert Gude Vedel painting "Interior" sold for $6,104.00 on March
17, 1990 at auction in Copenhagen.
