American School Painters

Martha Herpst (1911 - 1986)
Martha Herpst studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and the Grand Central School of Art in New York City, where she studied under Edmund Greacen, founder of the Grand Central School of Art and a pupil of Claude Monet. She also studied illustration with Harvey Dunn, Grant Reynard, and sculpture with George Lober.

Miss Herpst was listed in “Who’s Who in American Art” and became a member of the National Arts Club of New York City. In the 1930’s she was the youngest member of the club.

Continuing her career, Miss Herpst studied with Robert Phillipp at the Grand Central School. In 1941 she did advance studying with Guy Pene du Bois in New York.

Her paintings have been exhibited at the American Artists Professional League in New York City; at the Ogunquit, Maine, Art Association Exhibits and the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in New York.
