Natalie
Shapira Born near the Ural Mountains of Russia, Natalia Shapira's talent
as a sculptor has taken her artistic career to an international level.
Natalia's first formal artistic training at the Sverdlovsk College of
Arts (1983-1987) qualified her as a teacher of sculpture and drawing.
In 1989, Natalia was accepted to Russia's Krasnoyarsk University to be
classically trained in sculptural art (1989-1994). Participating in several
major exhibits even before the end of her artistic training, Natalia's
successful career as an independent artist had already begun. Cultured
in the classical approaches to sculpting, Natalia's work has achieved
universal appeal. In response to her wide acceptance, Natalia took her
artistic career to Tel Aviv, Israel (1996-1999). Working within artistic
communities in Israel, Natalia was active in restoration, drawing and
of course, sculpting.
Arriving in Canada in 1999, Natalia's talent was immediately celebrated.
Shortly after her arrival, Natalia attained a close relationship with
Klim Art Publishers where her sculpted works are now on permanent display
in three gallery locations across Toronto. With her ever-increasing success,
Natalia's original sculptures have earned their place in both international
art exhibitions and private collections across North America.
Mastery of form and commitment to her own style is what defines Natalia
Shapira's work. Though every proportion is considered with precision,
there is a true freedom about the style in which she applies to her sculpted
nudes. Their full and fantastic forms reflect the carefree feeling about
them. Possessing a dream like quality, they are truly embodiments of the
artist's imagination. Working on a small scale in natural materials lends
a sense of intimacy to her sculptures. These robust figures also posses
a confidence, which spurs a sense of admiration in the viewer; an admiration
that marks Natalia Shapira's sculptures as undeniably attractive.
